- Meeting Overview:
In the recent Ayer Select Board meeting, progress was made on various town projects, including water infrastructure improvements and budget preparations. The board approved contracts for the 2024 water system hydrant replacement project and the Jonathan Drive cross country water main project. Additionally, an amendment to the intermunicipal agreement with neighboring towns for stormwater management was executed. The meeting also saw the approval of funds for consulting services to update the town’s non-union classification and compensation plan and to assist in planning the use of 1 Sandy Pond Road for recreational purposes.
The board approved a host community agreement waiver for Central AV Compassionate Care Inc and Late Spring Inc, as the agreements were no longer legally required.
A discussion on the town’s 2024 goals and objectives highlighted the importance of updating select board and personnel policies, as well as preparing a balanced budget for FY 26. The town manager outlined potential goals, emphasizing the need for review and updates to maintain the town’s administrative efficiency and responsiveness.
The meeting also addressed the need for professional support within the parks department. The board recognized the necessity of the role but deferred immediate action pending further analysis and classification of the position.
Additionally, the board discussed spending plans, such as the allocation of up to $25,000 for a professional consultant to guide the public process for the development of 1 Sandy Pond Road and the engagement of a third-party consultant to review the town’s non-union classification and compensation system.
Another focus of the meeting was the town’s water supply and treatment facilities. The successful implementation of the outdoor water ban, which helped manage the town’s water supply and address treatment capacity issues, was reported. The board is closely monitoring water levels and has created an educational web page to inform the public about water supply management.
The board also reappointed the town manager as the town’s representative to the MART Advisory Board and Mr. Bob Williams to the Agricultural Council.
The meeting concluded with administrative updates, including the town manager’s report on the completion of the FY 24 budget and preparations for the FY 26 budget. Additionally, the board was informed about the upcoming town meeting warrant and the need to officially open the warrant during the August meeting.
The volunteers of the Independence and Air Celebration were also recognized for their contributions to the town’s community events.
