During the meeting, Superintendent John J. Niesz also requested a moment of silence for Monica Marowski, a long-serving school secretary who passed away suddenly. Her sudden demise was a somber note in the proceedings, demonstrating the tight-knit community of the Bayonne School District.

In the midst of the usual business and approval of minutes, the board heard from Prea Arwal, the Board of Education representative from Bayonne High School. Arwal shared various initiatives taken by the student government, including a successful anti-bullying campaign and a fundraising event called ‘Haunted Hallways’. The students also organized an operation called ‘Shoe Box’ to collect gifts for children during the holiday season.

The meeting also saw the president of the Bayonne Paraprofessional Association (BPA), Alex Sub, addressing two matters related to the association’s functioning. He highlighted concerns about incorrect dues deductions for some members and a lack of recognition for member longevity. Alex emphasized on the importance of effective communication to resolve these issues and foster a sense of trust within the organization.

The board also acknowledged that the Bayonne High School Drama Society’s recent program was not well attended, and expressed their desire to support the talented students in promoting their performances more effectively.
