At the meeting, the district celebrated its students’ achievements in the recent spelling bee. Isaiah Cassie, a seventh grader from Horace Mann School, won the first place title, with Macashri Chicherella and Noah Johnson securing the second and third places, respectively. These students, along with other top finishers, will advance to the Bayonne Hudson County Spelling Bee.

Another announcement was the district’s receipt of a competitive NJ DOE literacy grant, known as the LIFT grant. This initiative aims to build literacy skills in children from birth to age three by conducting workshops with community partners such as the Bayonne Public Library and the Bayonne Youth Center.

The board also addressed the schedule change of its meetings from Tuesdays to Mondays, which had caused some confusion and concern. An apology was issued for the oversight, and the communication breakdown was acknowledged.

Concerns about administrative leave policies were raised, focusing on the status of a specific individual whose administrative leave had transitioned to medical leave. This issue was suggested for discussion in an executive session due to its personnel nature.
