- Meeting Overview:
In a recent Bedminster Town Council meeting, officials focused on the town’s public safety and infrastructure, discussing various projects and initiatives that aim to enhance the quality of life for residents. Among notable topics were the introduction of multiple budget-related ordinances for town improvements, the swearing-in of a new police officer, and updates on utility service enhancements and a significant grant award.
The council addressed public safety by introducing ordinances for capital facility improvements and equipment for the fire and police departments, which included the swearing-in of new police officer Liam McAn, a U.S. Navy veteran and graduate of the Essex County Police Academy. Public hearings for these ordinances have been scheduled for June 17th, providing citizens with an opportunity to voice their opinions and concerns.
One of the ordinances introduced was withdrawn for further discussion.
The meeting also touched on the recent departure of Municipal Liaison Yolanta and the interim appointment of Bob Flynn. Yolanta’s departure raised concerns among council members about potential communication challenges with JCP&L, especially in light of a power outage that occurred on Memorial Day. The council deliberated on infrastructure improvements necessary to prevent future outages.
Updates on utility services included discussions on the installation of fiber service by Altice and the expansion of Verizon’s FiOS service in Pine Bale. Furthermore, a meeting with New Jersey American Water was announced to address resident concerns, showing the council’s engagement with utility providers to ensure reliable services.
The Public Safety Committee reported on the effectiveness of license plate readers and the commitment to enhance public safety through collaboration with other municipalities.
In the sphere of community engagement and development, positive feedback was received on a recent community event attended by 1200 people, with the area reported to be in excellent condition post-event. Additionally, the council approved social affair permits and a fireworks permit for an event at Hamilton Farm Golf Club.
Moreover, the appointment of Vincent D Martino to the Land Use Board aimed to strengthen the connection between the Board of Health and the Land Use Board.
The council discussed the Somerset County Film Commission’s photography project.
Other updates from the council meeting included the success of the farmers market, the Field of Honor ceremony, the historic oak tree planting, and the upcoming summer camp programs from the Recreation Committee, all of which contribute to the town’s cultural and recreational vitality.
The meeting concluded with a reminder of the upcoming election and the announcement of the second annual Civics Day with the Bedminster Township School 8th grade, encouraging civic engagement among young residents. The council also discussed the construction progress at Buckman Park Housing and the installation of PSG.
