- Meeting Overview:
At the recent Bedminster Town Council meeting, the council unanimously approved the introduction of a $2 million bond ordinance aimed at funding various emergency services and equipment upgrades. The ordinance, which is set for a public hearing on November 18, 2024, outlines plans for substantial investments, including new radios for emergency services and a water tender for the Pottersville Fire Company.
The bond ordinance also covers the remounting of an ambulance for the Bedminster Far Hills First Aid Squad. The funding arrangement involves a financial partnership with Far Hills, with Bedminster shouldering a portion of the costs. The council’s unanimous support for the ordinance reflects a collective acknowledgment of the necessity for these upgrades to maintain public safety standards.
In addition to the bond ordinance, the meeting addressed several resolutions related to community events and infrastructure. One notable resolution supported Darby Development LLC’s application to host a one-day steeplechase race in October 2025, aligning with similar events in the neighboring Far Hills area. This resolution permits the New Jersey Racing Commission to authorize betting at the event, continuing a tradition that has become an annual occurrence in Bedminster.
Another resolution authorized an emergency contract with R and R Construction for sewer main repairs on Route 202/206, prompted by an incident during the Fall Fest event. The council approved a contract not exceeding $30,000, with the current invoice at $26,000 for the immediate emergency work. Further repairs are anticipated, pending state confirmation on the necessary restoration work. The council expressed gratitude to the public works and police departments for their swift response during the emergency.
The council also addressed budget adjustments through resolutions, including the insertion of special revenue items into the 2024 budget. This adjustment was funded by a private donation from the Resurgent Church, following a cornhole event, to purchase safety equipment for the police department. The donation was acknowledged with appreciation, and the resolution passed unanimously.
Additionally, a fund transfer of $1,745 was approved to address a shortage in the group health waiver line for employee healthcare. This shortage arose from an unexpected waiver opted by an employee, highlighting the timing sensitivity of such waivers, which typically occur in November.
During the meeting, there were no public comments, and no new business items were introduced. Under old business, an inquiry about updates on the Pluckin Park Senior Housing yielded no new information. The session concluded with members of the Township Committee encouraging community participation in the upcoming vote, with expressions of gratitude for those involved in recent community events.
