In addition to the foundation’s recognition, the board discussed several critical district goals aligned with their long-range strategic plan. These include the implementation of a new data entry and analysis system known as ‘Schoolytics,’ aimed at enhancing data management across the district. They also introduced initiatives focused on student wellness, including an Artificial Intelligence (AI) plan that will address screen time and policy issues. Furthermore, the board is prioritizing staff training in AI and intends to optimize the district’s budget.

Financial matters were also addressed extensively. The board discussed the district’s fiscal health, noting that health cost centers exceeded budgetary estimates by approximately $3 million. The shortfall was offset partially by extraordinary aid and savings on district busing. However, the district’s extraordinary aid allocation fell short of state calculations, potentially affecting future negotiations for out-of-district placements.

The meeting also touched on infrastructure concerns, including the successful insurance claim for a previous hydrant-related water main break and ongoing efforts to secure lead remediation grants for water fixtures. Additionally, a donation from the PEC will fund the construction of an ADA-compliant walkway to a greenhouse.

Lastly, the board approved updates to several policies, including those related to independent educational evaluations and the use of school facilities.
