Bogota School Board Celebrates Student Achievements and Approves Preliminary Budget for County Review
- Meeting Overview:
The Bogota School Board meeting on March 16th, 2026, highlighted student accomplishments across various disciplines, approved a preliminary budget for county review, and celebrated the district’s successful Quality Annual Comprehensive (QAC) review.
At the forefront of the meeting was the celebration of student achievements at Bogota High School. The student representative, Jimea Vargas, reported on a range of activities and accomplishments. The school community honored Black History Month, hosting the African American Traveling Museum’s “A Time for Change” exhibit, which provided students with an interactive educational experience on the civil rights movement. Notably, Ariana Denoi Martin received recognition for her sculpture at the William Paterson University art student show. The drama club performed “Into the Woods,” further exemplifying the dedication and collaboration of students.
In academics, students engaged with classic literature and contemporary themes in English classes, while the business club prepared for a mock interview contest aimed at enhancing professionalism and communication skills. The month was rounded off with the recognition of David Barrier as the school’s unsung hero for his leadership and positive impact on the community.
Superintendent Damian Kennedy also shared updates on the district’s financial and operational status. The board approved the preliminary budget for submission to the county. A public budget hearing is scheduled for April to provide a detailed presentation of the financial plan. The chair of the finance committee and other committee members were acknowledged for their contributions in guiding the budget process.
The meeting also celebrated the district’s positive QAC review results, indicating successful benchmarks in testing scores and other components such as board governance, facilities, curriculum, and student performance. Furthermore, due to favorable weather patterns, it was confirmed that no additional snow days would be needed this year, allowing the school calendar to remain unchanged with the last day of school set for June 24th. An increase in fifth-grade students due to redistricting will lead to two separate graduation ceremonies on that day.
