Boston Licensing Board Weighs Sally’s Pizza License Amid Traffic Concerns
- Meeting Overview:
The Boston Licensing Board recently convened virtually to consider various petitions, with discussions focusing on a proposal to transfer a liquor license for a new pizza establishment, Sally’s Pizza, on Thompson Place. The board took several matters under advisement, including this significant proposal, which received notable community feedback due to traffic and safety concerns.
15:55During the meeting, the petition to transfer a license and relocate it to Thompson Fields Pie Company LLC, doing business as Sally’s Pizza, sparked considerable discussion. Attorney Adam Barnoski, representing the establishment, outlined plans for a 5,731-square-foot restaurant with seating for 144 patrons, serving lunch and dinner without delivery. Barnoski emphasized the public need for this establishment in an area that has been vacant and highlighted the operator’s positive reputation.
14:56The Fort Point Neighborhood Association and other community members expressed conditional support for the proposal. Newman reported the association’s request for collaboration with private way owners to establish a designated 15-minute pickup and drop-off zone to alleviate traffic concerns. The potential for blocking the one-way street and causing congestion was a central issue raised by several parties, including Cindy from Councillor Flynn’s office and Tom Ready from the Four Point Neighborhood Association. They stressed the importance of addressing double parking, public safety, and quality of life.
Norland from the Seaport Neighborhood Association echoed these concerns, highlighting the narrowness of Thompson Place and the expected increase in traffic due to changes on Sleeper Street. The board did not pose any additional questions after hearing these testimonies and decided to take the matter under advisement.
18:25Another notable item involved the application from Chamba Smart and Convenience Store Inc, seeking a retail package store license for wines and malt beverages on Humboldt Avenue in Dorchester. Attorney Jennifer Allen represented the store, noting the owner’s 23-year history in the community and the absence of nearby stores offering similar products. John Reyes, the store owner, plans for a specific alcohol aisle. Concerns regarding antisocial behavior and loitering were addressed through community engagement and proposed security measures. The board, after inquiring about the store layout, took this matter under advisement as well.
02:25In addition, the board considered a petition from Shack Foods of Back Bay LLC to change its Doing Business As (DBA) name from Somershack to Elbarco. The change, presented by Attorney Dennis Quilty, was described as straightforward with no operational impact. This item, alongside others involving changes in LLC managers and ownership interests for various establishments, was taken under advisement without public testimony or board inquiries.
26:20Finally, the board reviewed an application from Manina Cafe Inc in Dorchester for a seven-day wines and malt beverages license due to a change in beneficial interest. Attorney Jen Allen clarified that Alejandra Rosa would become the sole stockholder. The board confirmed prior approval for the establishment and expressed no objections to the ownership change.
