- Meeting Overview:
In a recent Bradford County Council meeting, several variance requests and a special exception application were considered, with public comment periods allowing for community input. Among the topics, the requests by Joel Islam and 3398 Lakehouse LLC, along with an application by the Bradford County Board of County Commissioners, were approved. Additionally, a special exception application by Chris Barber, which sparked discussion on the potential for future rental or Airbnb use, was also approved following public comments and clarification that the structure was intended for family accommodation.
The meeting opened with the acknowledgment that two council members were absent, establishing the quorum with the three present commissioners. Following routine approval of previous meeting corrections, the council proceeded to new business, where variance applications took center stage.
Joel Islam’s variance request to reduce a lot’s minimum yard setbacks from 10 feet to 5 feet along the northerly line of his property received no public objection and was approved. Similarly, 3398 Lakehouse LLC’s request to decrease setbacks from 30 feet to 10 feet along the eastern line of their property was granted without public dissent.
The Bradford County Board of County Commissioners sought a variance for the extension of living quarters at an annex on Speedville Road, proposing a reduction of the minimum yard setback from 15 feet to 5 feet. This application, explained as necessary for expanding sleeping quarters, was approved after a brief public comment period.
The special exception application submitted by Chris Barber proposed the addition of a guest house with separate utility meters on his property. Public concerns were raised regarding the potential for the structure to be used as a rental or for Airbnb purposes. The council clarified that the special exception was for the accommodation of Barber’s sister and not intended for rental income. Despite a resident’s concern about the visibility and notice of the public comment session due to signage issues, the application was approved.
During the public comments segment, a citizen highlighted concerns about Kamores’ mining operations and suggested the county conduct an inspection to ensure compliance with original permits, citing environmental and safety risks.
