Brendan McIsaac Elected North Hunterdon-Voorhees School Board President Amid Leadership Changes
- Meeting Overview:
The North Hunterdon-Voorhees Regional High School District Board of Education meeting on January 6, 2026, saw key leadership changes with the election of new president Brendan McIsaac and vice president Tara Hintz. These elections took place alongside a series of discussions on budget planning, procedural updates, and potential structural changes within the board.
The meeting’s most development was the election of Brendan McIsaac as board president. Nominated for his extensive experience, including a six-year tenure as president of the Clinton Glenn Gardner school board and a long career in education, McIsaac was elected despite questions regarding his stance on the committee of the whole structure. McIsaac’s election came after a roll call vote in which all but one member supported him. He expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in him and committed to advancing the district’s interests.
Following McIsaac’s election, the vice presidency was filled by Tara Hintz, who was recognized for her long-standing service on the board and strong community ties. The board lauded her as the “heart and soul” of the board. Hintz’s election was also met with significant support, with only one dissenting vote. She voiced her eagerness to contribute positively to the board’s efforts and to maintain transparency and effective administration.
In addition to leadership elections, the board tackled several procedural matters, including the designation of official newspapers. Although some designated newspapers are no longer in print, the board plans to continue advertising as usual until a shift to digital-only advertisements on the district’s website becomes mandatory by March 31. This change is intended to comply with state statutes.
Budget planning and updates formed a part of the discussion. The board reviewed the scheduling of the preliminary budget submission to the county office, set for March 17, allowing a review period before the budget hearing on April 28. A board member highlighted the importance of efficient communication regarding these and other meetings.
The board also deliberated on the structure of future meetings, with suggestions to enhance the working sessions for more in-depth exploration of committee tasks such as finance and policy. A member raised concerns about the potential length of these sessions, stressing the need for a balance between thorough discussion and meeting efficiency.
Other procedural updates included the annual update to flexible spending account limits, the participation in cooperative pricing systems to procure goods more cost-effectively, and the authorization of periodic sales of surplus goods.
The board discussed the need for a more detailed structure for working meetings, especially during budget season, and proposed a work session dedicated to budget discussions. Suggestions for improving meeting structures and norms were encouraged.
Additionally, the meeting addressed the appointment of delegates for county and state assemblies, emphasizing the experience and insight these roles bring to influencing school board policies. The potential revival of quarterly meetings among sending districts was proposed to enhance communication and cooperation on shared issues.
