Brick Memorial High School Football Team and Coach Celebrated; Community and Infrastructure Projects Approved
- Meeting Overview:
The recent Brick Town Council meeting was marked by a blend of celebratory recognitions and significant approvals for infrastructure projects and community initiatives. The council honored the Brick Memorial High School Mustangs football team and their head coach, Walt Curry, for a championship season, and approved various roadway improvements, contracts, and resolutions aimed at enhancing township services and supporting local businesses.
One item at the meeting was the recognition of the Brick Memorial High School Mustangs football team for their outstanding performance, culminating in a victory in the Central Jersey Group Four Championship. With a season record of 7-2, the team secured their championship by defeating Middletown North High School 28-0. In honor of their achievements, the mayor proclaimed December 10th, 2025, as Brick Memorial High School Football Team Day. Acknowledging a key figure in the team’s success, December 11th was declared Walt Curry Day. Coach Curry, the winningest coach in the school’s history with 116 victories, expressed his gratitude, highlighting the collective efforts of his staff and players and the community’s unwavering support.
The meeting also included various approvals crucial for the township’s infrastructure and services. Among these were several resolutions related to roadway improvements. The council authorized contracts for the Lions Head South Roadway resurfacing project and multilocation roadway resurfacing, totaling over $833,000. These projects, awarded to Earl Asphalt Farmingale and Mo Inc., respectively, cover significant improvements including resurfacing, ADA compliance, and curb replacements. Additionally, contracts for stormwater improvements and the Cherry Quay roadway improvement program were approved.
In terms of community services, the council moved forward with a shared services agreement with Ocean County for street repair and maintenance, which is expected to streamline municipal contracts with the county’s road and engineering departments. Further supporting the community, the council approved an agreement with Meals on Wheels, which will enable a nutrition program at Brick Senior Services, offsetting a portion of meal costs.
A notable community initiative discussed was the lease for a nonprofit organization, Choose Love Celebrate Life (CLCL), to operate a store named Community Threads. This store aims to provide essential items like clothing and hygiene products to those in need, funded through charitable donations. The council expressed support for this endeavor, seeing it as a valuable addition to community services, and approved a lease in Civic Plaza for the initiative.
Another focal point was the storefront revitalization ordinance, intended to encourage businesses to occupy vacant commercial properties by waiving township permit fees. This program, reportedly responsible for nearly 40 new businesses since its inception, was discussed with input from council members and the public. The ordinance was amended to require properties to be vacant for just one year instead of five.
The council also addressed several public comments and concerns. One resident expressed dissatisfaction with the approval of a Dunkin Donuts application due to traffic and safety issues, urging the council to consider the cumulative impact of such decisions. Another resident raised questions about the effectiveness of the storefront revitalization program.
In closing, the council shared updates on community events, including a holiday walkthrough at Lake Riviera and an upcoming menorah lighting ceremony, inviting public participation. The meeting concluded with plans for the next public meeting scheduled for December 29th.
