Brick Town Council Approves Land Transfer to Fire Company, Advances Public Works Project
- Meeting Overview:
At the recent Brick Town Council meeting, several decisions were made, including the transfer of township-owned land to the Bretonwoods Fire Company and the approval of a bond ordinance for the Department of Public Works. Additionally, council members authorized a series of financial resolutions and detailed upcoming community events.
24:12The meeting’s most notable resolution involved the approval of an ordinance to transfer a piece of township-owned land located on Windsor Road to the Bretonwoods Fire Company. This decision rectified a historical oversight, as the fire company had been utilizing the property under the assumption of ownership for many years. The Mayor clarified that the land had been mistakenly retained under township ownership despite its long-term use by the fire company.
25:34Equally significant, the council introduced a bond ordinance to initiate the first phase of a multi-year construction project for the Department of Public Works. This phase, valued at $2,200,000, will cover the replacement of fuel tanks, site work, and building design, with $290,000 financed through bond issuance. Future phases will extend to renovating existing facilities and constructing a truck wash. The ordinance was approved without any public objections, highlighting the council’s strategic planning for the township’s operational infrastructure.
22:43In financial matters, the council addressed two key resolutions. A computer bill resolution amounting to $16,882,700.63 and a manual bill resolution for $2,110,419.78 were both passed unanimously. These resolutions are important for maintaining the township’s financial stability and ensuring the smooth operation of its services.
02:59The council also managed several resolutions under the consent agenda. Noteworthy among them was the acceptance of a $50,000 grant from the Ocean County Planning Board for the operation and maintenance of three pumpout boats—Bay Saver, Bay Defender, and Wastistnot. These boats provide environmentally safe waste disposal for local boaters.
Additionally, the council approved the submission of a strategic plan for the Brick Municipal Alliance Grant for fiscal year 2026, which includes drug enforcement funding. The plan’s financial components, including a cash and in-kind match, were outlined.
Public works and infrastructure were further addressed with the approval of a contract for resurfacing Arrowhead Park, amounting to $217,080. This project involves removing old playground safety surfaces and installing new ones.
These acquisitions, facilitated through cooperative pricing systems, are intended to bolster the township’s emergency response capabilities.
19:28During the public comment section, a resident raised questions about the bidding process for the Arrowhead Park resurfacing project. The council clarified that bids would be solicited to ensure competitive pricing, emphasizing transparency and fiscal responsibility.
28:11The Mayor reported on upcoming community events, including the grand opening of a new friendship hub for the Challenger program and a townwide yard sale with over 200 participating homes. The Mayor also encouraged residents to attend the Memorial Day parade and announced a master plan hearing scheduled for June 11th to discuss future township planning strategies, including affordable housing topics.
34:28In closing, council members expressed appreciation for the Cub Scouts of Pack 38, acknowledging their contributions to the community. Councilwoman Ponttorero shared a personal health update, requesting support and prayers from the community. The meeting concluded with a unanimous motion to adjourn, with the next council meeting scheduled for May 27th.
