Councilman Ring and Councilman Kirsh followed suit, taking their oaths of office, with Councilman Ring being elected as Council President and Councilman Norgalis as Council Vice President for 2024.

A notable occurrence was Township Clerk Grace Juna RMC being sworn in by her predecessor, retired Clerk Linda J Doyle, symbolizing a seamless transition of responsibilities. This unique event underscores the continuous and stable governance within Bridgewater’s local government.

Mayor Moench’s State of the Township address reflected on Bridgewater’s agricultural roots and underscored the unity and collaboration among council members. He articulated the council’s achievements and the contributions of various community members, including Congressman Kane, County Clerk Steve Peter, and other local luminaries. Mayor Moench emphasized the importance of community-driven initiatives such as the Bridgewater Shield program, community policing efforts, the Bridgewater Reach program combating the opioid crisis, and policies supporting local businesses and open spaces.

Councilman Michael Kirsh highlighted his dedication to fostering religious and cultural cooperation within Bridgewater, extending thanks to organizations and individuals for their support. Councilman Timothy Ring, assuming his role as Council President, expressed gratitude to the community, his colleagues, and family, recognizing the township employees’ and volunteers’ efforts across various boards and committees.

The council proceeded to address business items, including mayoral appointments with council consent for Michael Papis as Director of Administration and Finance, and Christine Madrid as Director of Human Services. Councilman Howard Norgalis proposed an amendment regarding payment terms for Township Attorney Christopher M. Corini, which the council adopted.

Mayor Moench’s appointments that did not require council consent included positions on the Local Emergency Management Council and other significant boards. The council also approved appointments for an auditor, assessment search officer, and Township engineer, among others, emphasizing the importance of these roles in the efficient running of municipal operations.
