Following the budget overview, a report on student activities was provided, mentioning the induction of a new history chapter of the National Honor Society at the high school.

During the public comments section, community member Michael Bramall commended the superintendent for his handling of the pandemic. However, he shifted the focus to the budget, questioning the approval of professional development funds for an employee facing position elimination. He also expressed appreciation for Ms. Ashley Pines, a retiring employee with 25 years of service at Northend. The board moved past Mr. Bramall’s comments without further discussion on the raised issues.

The elimination of security guard positions was a issue, drawing attention from several community members. Although the board acknowledged the concerns, they did not provide an explanation for the proposed cuts during the meeting.

Another point of contention was the elimination of the director of guidance and school counseling position. A resident questioned this move, given the importance of mental health support for students. The board clarified that the decision was part of a restructuring effort and emphasized the district’s ongoing development of programs to support mental health, including the increased availability of school psychologists and social workers.
