- Meeting Overview:
Cinnaminson Town Council, in its recent meeting on June 17, 2024, marked a significant transition within the local police department. The session was particularly notable for the swearing-in of the new police chief, William Obuchowski, along with police captain Roy Wagner, and two new officers, Zachary Edmonson and Julia Wheeler. The meeting also addressed the town’s infrastructure, including the authorization of a grant application for the resurfacing of Fairfax Drive and other improvements, the introduction of new pickleball courts at Memorial Park, and the approval of resolutions for various municipal contracts.
The appointment of William Obuchowski as the new Chief of Police was a focal point of the meeting. The transition came after honoring the retired police chief, Richard A. Calabri, for his two decades of service to the community. Alongside the new chief, the swearing-in ceremony included Captain Roy Wagner and Officers Zachary Edmonson and Julia Wheeler, who are joining the police force. The council acknowledged the import of these appointments and commended the individuals assuming their new roles.
In addition to the police department’s changes, the council focused on the township’s physical infrastructure. A key resolution discussed at the meeting involved the filing of a grant application targeting the resurfacing of Fairfax Drive. The proposed improvements included milling, an overlay replacement, the construction of driveway aprons, the installation of sidewalk ADA-compliant curb ramps, and traffic striping.
Another item that captured the council’s attention was the authorization of a property lien due to maintenance violations.
The inauguration of three pickleball courts at Memorial Park was highlighted. These new courts expand recreational opportunities for residents, complementing the already scheduled family tennis day, summer tennis lessons, and the summer concert series. These initiatives are part of the council’s broader agenda to enhance local parks and recreational facilities.
The council also reviewed and accepted the 2023 annual audit presented during the meeting. The auditor reported no findings. This financial health is critical for the council’s ability to fund various projects and services within the township.
The meeting included a consent agenda that saw the authorization of contracts for essential equipment and services. Among the approved resolutions were contracts for breathalyzer equipment, necessary for the police department, and for the installation of new flooring in municipal buildings. The agenda also included the approval of road reconstruction and resurfacing projects.
Public comments during the meeting brought up residents’ concerns and inquiries on topics such as road resurfacing, property maintenance, and park improvements. These interactions reflect the council’s openness to community feedback and its role in addressing the constituents’ needs and interests.
The council’s proceedings also featured a nod to the local sports community, with an acknowledgment of the success of the Cinnaminson softball tournament. Such recognitions serve to foster community spirit and celebrate local achievements.
The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn and the announcement of the next council meeting, scheduled for July 15, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. This future meeting will offer another opportunity for the council to address township matters and for residents to engage with their local government officials.
