Clifton School Board Celebrates Lucy Danny’s 15 Years of Service and Student Achievements
- Meeting Overview:
The Clifton School Board meeting on February 26th was highlighted by a tribute to board member Lucy Danny for her 15 years of service, alongside recognitions of student accomplishments and exemplary district employees. The meeting also included a session for public comments and a segment focused on family engagement within the PBSIS framework.
The meeting’s most significant event was the recognition of Lucy Danny, a member of the board since 2011. Danny was honored for her service and leadership during challenging times, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. A resolution was presented to acknowledge her contributions to enhancing educational opportunities for Clifton’s students. The board president, whose identity remains unspecified, delivered a touching tribute that emphasized their camaraderie, likening their relationship to that of sisters. This tribute highlighted Danny’s role in the district’s progress, including the hiring of a strong superintendent and the advancement of various initiatives.
In response, Danny expressed her gratitude to the Clifton community, acknowledging the support of voters, colleagues, and the district’s staff. She praised the district employees for their commitment to impacting students’ lives positively, stating, “I can’t say enough about them. They’re just truly wonderful individuals who truly care about the district and about making an impact in students’ lives.” The tribute concluded with a commemorative photo opportunity with fellow board members.
The meeting also shone a spotlight on the achievements of Clifton students, recognizing athletic teams and individual awardees. Although some coaches and athletes were absent due to commitments elsewhere, applause and acknowledgment were given to those present and those unable to attend. The recognized sports included girls cross country, football, girls volleyball, girls soccer, indoor track, and girls bowling.
Furthermore, students of the month for December and January were celebrated for their dedication and achievements. December’s ninth-grade student was Mustafa Amed, noted for his passion for English Language Arts, while Haniah from the tenth grade excelled in mathematics and was active in several clubs. Eleventh-grader Christopher Galatia was recognized for his reflective nature and love for English, and Daisy Zuniga, a senior, was commended for her leadership and aspirations to become an immigration lawyer.
For January, Kylie Okacio was acknowledged for her enthusiasm for mathematics, Julia Grabowski for her accomplishments in math and leadership, Brian Charlay for his focus on engineering, and Thomas Bowman for his involvement in the performing arts. Bosco Derick, a motivated freshman in math, was also recognized for his inspiration drawn from teachers and involvement in soccer.
