Overview: In a recent meeting of the Community Education Council District 2, attention was given to the disparities in school discipline affecting students with disabilities and minority students within New York City public schools. The discussion, led by the chair of the students with disabilities committee, highlighted that while these students make up a smaller percentage of the overall student population, they receive a disproportionate number of suspensions. Efforts to address these disparities and explore systemic solutions were central to the meeting’s agenda.
