The council ultimately voted to advance the ordinance for a first reading, with a public hearing scheduled for December 16. The discourse surrounding 401 Creek Road reflects broader community concerns about development and conservation, as residents voiced fears about losing approximately 700 trees and the consequent impact on local wildlife and the environment if the property is not acquired.

Another topic of the meeting was the redesign of the Vine Street Park, with the presentation of “alternate plan number two.” This new plan, endorsed by the recreation commission, excludes the previously proposed gazebo, which was estimated to cost between $65,000 to $70,000. Instead, the redesign focuses on creating an open sitting area with new table spaces and additional trees. The council expressed intentions to apply for a local Recreation Improvement Grant to fund the project, with a submission deadline of January 31, 2025. The redesign aims for completion in time for Delanco’s Centennial celebration in 2026.

Public comments on the park redesign centered around concerns for active recreation, particularly for children playing soccer. The design is not intended for active sports, and fencing is being considered to delineate the park area for safety reasons. A low fence along Burlington Avenue is proposed to prevent hazards from traffic.

Updates included the completion of the Babe Ruth and Field of Dreams paths, featuring handicap-accessible asphalt paths and maintenance improvements. The council discussed the 2024 Best Practices Inventory, noting a score of 41 out of 46.5, well above the threshold to avoid reductions in state aid.
