One of notable topics discussed was the proposed new school’s capacity and design, which sparked concerns regarding potential conflicts with other ongoing projects in the town. The board members stressed the importance of addressing safety issues both inside and outside the school, with particular emphasis on parking lot issues and building safety features. During the discussion, it was suggested that potential renovations should be considered alongside new construction, and that the EPQ should incorporate these safety concerns and other building issues.

The feasibility study was another focal point, as members debated the best approach to balance predictions with actual needs that would be clarified upon the study’s completion. The impact of housing developments and water issues on future school enrollment was considered, and board members advocated for a review of these factors as part of the feasibility study. The current utilization of school spaces, such as the multi-purpose use of the cafeteria and the capacity of certain areas, were also brought to attention, highlighting the need for careful planning to ensure the adequacy and safety of the school facilities.

Furthermore, the integration of technology in PreK through fourth-grade classrooms, especially at the Beckwith Palmer River Elementary School, was discussed in detail. The board members reviewed the proposed changes in classroom and special education spaces, including the addition of STEM spaces and a maker space. A brief mention was made regarding the update of dining and food service space to accommodate a full-service kitchen and storage facilities.

During the meeting, the topic of curriculum changes at the elementary school level was also addressed.
