- Meeting Overview:
At its recent meeting, the Dighton Community Preservation Committee (CPC) approved the purchase of new project signage and the payment of annual dues for the Community Preservation Coalition. Additionally, the committee discussed potential future projects and reviewed the eligibility of a housing authority project.
The CPC decided to purchase ten yard signs and six indoor plaques to mark ongoing and completed preservation projects. The decision was driven by the need for better visibility and recognition of CPC-funded initiatives. These signs and plaques will help inform the public about the projects’ funding sources and progress. The yard signs, which will be used during construction phases, were approved for a cost not exceeding $100, while the indoor plaques, intended for permanent display upon project completion, were approved at a cost not exceeding $200. The committee plans to explore options for durable outdoor plaques for projects like playgrounds and trails.
In another development, the CPC approved the payment of $875 in annual dues to the Community Preservation Coalition. These funds support the coalition’s website, staffing, and training sessions, which are instrumental in guiding CPC members through various preservation initiatives. The committee emphasized the value of these resources, particularly as they consider establishing an affordable housing trust.
The committee also reviewed an application of eligibility for a Dighton Housing Authority project, which involves window replacements. However, due to the absence of detailed inspection reports and condition documentation, the decision was postponed pending further information from the housing authority director.
Lastly, the CPC discussed a potential future project to revitalize the South Dighton Playground, which may include dedicating the playground in memory of a former Parks and Rec commissioner and CPC member. This project aims to honor the individual’s contributions while enhancing the playground’s facilities.
