- Meeting Overview:
In a recent meeting, the Dighton Community Preservation Committee focused on potential improvements to the Timothy Ryan Memorial Playground and provided updates on ongoing projects. While playground enhancements were highlighted, the committee also discussed state matching funds and the progress of other community initiatives.
The committee addressed plans for the Timothy Ryan Memorial Playground, located at Palmer Street School Lane. The discussion centered on potential upgrades with a focus on modest design improvements. The committee consulted a playground designer to explore preliminary designs and pricing, aiming to keep project costs below $60,000. The improvements are intended to modernize the playground equipment while maintaining its current aesthetic and functionality. The committee is optimistic about securing additional funding sources to supplement potential requests to the Community Preservation Committee.
Financial matters were also discussed, with the committee noting that the state matching funds for the year amounted to $27,485, slightly lower than previous years. These funds are based on Dighton’s local contributions and state allocations, which vary annually. The committee plans to incorporate these funds into future project planning.
Project updates were a part of the meeting. The Trails Committee is moving forward with procurement processes for studies related to Broad Cove, and progress is being made on the West Dighton properties. Additionally, the library project, which encountered delays due to architectural planning issues, is expected to advance in December with the completion of necessary plans.
The meeting also touched on historical preservation efforts. The Historical Commission’s proposal at a recent special town meeting passed unanimously, facilitating the commencement of a new project pending contract finalization.
