During the meeting, the newly elected members of the board, Lucy Figorito, Mark Fernandez, and Zachary Infante, were sworn in following the announcement of election results, with a total of 6,320 ballots cast. Dr. Britney Kirkland’s election as board president was confirmed after a majority vote, while Michael-Anne Regan was elected vice president unopposed.

A point of discussion was the impasse in contract negotiations between the Roselle Park Education Association and the Board of Education. A representative from the New Jersey Education Association underscored the urgency of resuming talks and reaching an agreement, despite the current declaration of impasse and pending mediation. The representative expressed a strong willingness to return to the negotiating table, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the board and the association.

The board also addressed routine agenda items such as the adoption of policies and procedures, the New Jersey School Board Member Code of Ethics, and the annual schedule of meetings. During this discussion, a request was made to reschedule next year’s January meeting date to accommodate Orthodox Christmas celebrations.
