The consultant’s role includes behind-the-scenes coordination and strategic planning to optimize the direction of the health collaborative, known as the Common Ground Health Collaborative. Despite some dissent regarding the name, it remains unchanged to avoid bureaucratic complications.

In preparation for summer, the board is addressing logistical challenges related to trash and recycling, especially with the impending demolition of the high school and the opening of a new building. The recycling coordinator has been diligently ensuring that all waste management items are accounted for and not inadvertently demolished. Upcoming events include a Green Team e-recycling event and a household hazardous waste day, with registration required for the latter due to limited capacity.

The board also highlighted an increase in temporary permits due to numerous local events such as Summerfest, the farmers market, and food truck Fridays. This increase in activities is keeping the health department busy with inspections and permitting. Additionally, the department is managing a high volume of nuisance complaints and preparing for possible communicable disease alerts related to the FIFA World Cup.

Animal control efforts are improving with the near completion of training for a new animal control officer, which will enhance the response capacity for animal-related calls. Meanwhile, the search for a public health nurse continues, with interviews expected soon to fill the position promptly and ensure readiness for any health emergencies.
