East Longmeadow Conservation Commission Reviews Compliance Requests and Discusses Hazard Tree Removals
- Meeting Overview:
The East Longmeadow Conservation Commission meeting on September 24, 2025, focused on compliance requests for various properties and included a discussion about hazard tree removals at a storage unit on 175 DLO. The commission also addressed an upcoming need to appoint a new representative to the Community Preservation Committee (CPC).
The commission approved a partial certificate of compliance for the property on Milbrook Drive, which is part of a larger subdivision subject to an order of conditions. Despite being located 394 feet from the nearest jurisdictional area, the property was deemed compliant, allowing for the partial release. Similarly, on Alpine Avenue, another subdivision property, a partial certificate of compliance was granted due to its distance from any jurisdictional wetlands, which are approximately 314 feet away.
A request for an invalid order of conditions certificate of compliance was approved for a property on Favorite Lane. This property, part of an undeveloped subdivision, had an expired order of conditions. The commission’s decision allows future development under new conditions, should they be applied for.
Discussion also highlighted the presence of hazard trees at a storage facility on 175 DLO. These trees posed a risk to stored items, prompting the application of the town’s policy to remove them before any damage occurs. The commission confirmed that the hazard trees were appropriately identified and actions were taken to mitigate the risk.
Furthermore, the commission briefly discussed an update on a previous meeting’s action involving a sheep farmer on Summers Road. A certified letter had been sent, but it remained unclaimed at the post office, with only a notice left for the recipient.
Lastly, the group acknowledged the need to select a new representative for the Community Preservation Committee after the current representative’s departure. This topic will be added to an upcoming meeting agenda to ensure a smooth transition.
