Another matter of considerable interest was the “Wait Until 8th” initiative, which the superintendent discussed. This initiative, backed by the board, underscores the growing concern around the impact of technology on children. By advocating for parents to hold off on giving their children smartphones until the 8th grade, the initiative speaks to broader societal and educational challenges related to digital literacy and student mental health.

The Relay for Life event was notably successful, with the Cavo Cancer Crushers team, consisting of students, staff, and community members, raising a remarkable $337,500 for cancer research. The board member’s report highlighted the event’s importance and the substantial contribution it made to the cause.

In addition to these primary concerns, the meeting addressed several other matters of interest to the community. The Facilities, Buildings, and Grounds Committee provided updates on the district’s planned summer projects, with specific attention to the High School tennis court and potential baseball and softball field projects.
