The Commission on Disability’s scholarship program is financed through a unique mechanism where fines from handicap parking violations are channeled into an account managed by the Commission. This fund not only supports the scholarship program but also contributes to services and equipment for disabled veterans and other related initiatives. The scholarship recipients were honored for their achievements and encouraged to continue their education and contribute positively to the city of Fall River in the future.

During the meeting, Mayor Coogan expressed his support for the students’ educational pursuits and highlighted the importance of their contributions to the community. In addition to the scholarship presentations, the meeting featured remarks from city councilor Andrew Reposa, Superintendent of Diamond Brian Bentley, and special education director Lori Obain, who recognized the accomplishments of the students.

The scholarships were awarded to a number of students from various local schools, including BMC Durfee High School, Diamond Regional Vocational Technical School, Atlantis Charter School, and August Collegiate Charter School. Some of the recipients mentioned their future educational institutions, such as Bridgewater and BCC.
