Fall River Historical Commission Supports St. Anne Shrine’s Funding Application for Critical Repairs
- Meeting Overview:
In a recent meeting, the Fall River Historical Commission decided to provide a letter of support for St. Anne Shrine Preservation Society’s application to the Community Preservation Committee (CPC) for additional funding. The funds will be used for significant restoration work on the shrine, specifically focusing on repointing stone buttresses to prevent potential structural damage.
Jeff Montigny, president of the St. Anne Shrine Preservation Society, addressed the commission, detailing the need for repairs on specific areas of the church building. The society has already completed some roof, downspout, and slate work but identified the stonework as a more immediate concern.
The commission expressed their support for the society’s dedication to preserving the historical church, acknowledging the Catholic Church’s integral role in Fall River’s history. A motion was made and passed to issue the letter of support, which will accompany the funding application to the CPC.
In other matters, the commission discussed a potential demolition at Zero Ross Street involving an old cinder block building not on the significant structures list, thus not requiring a demolition delay. Additionally, there was correspondence regarding the Chace and Webster building, where plans are underway to convert it into residential apartments. The commission plans to review these proposals at future meetings.
