- Meeting Overview:
In a recent meeting, the Fall River Licensing Board approved several key license transfers and renewals, including victualer licenses and beer and wine permits, with minimal opposition or debate. The board demonstrated efficiency in processing applications, ensuring businesses could continue operations without interruption, while also addressing isolated concerns about accountability.
The most significant item on the agenda was the approval of a new common victualer license for G Foods, a forthcoming establishment on Tucker Street. Represented by Natalia Fernandez, G Foods is set to introduce a buffet, bakery, butcher shop, and Brazilian supermarket, utilizing 60 of the 80 seats from its predecessor, a Chinese restaurant. Operating from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily, the board discussed the application without objection, resulting in a unanimous vote in favor of granting the license.
Another noteworthy transfer involved the beer and wine common victualer license for TBA High Pizza, located on Robon Street. John Ceno represented Alexandros Demetriadis, explaining that the transfer was necessary following the passing of the family matriarch. With Demetriadis having managed the establishment, formal recognition as the manager was sought and approved without opposition, allowing the business to maintain its operations six days a week.
The board also approved a psychic shop license for Fortune Taylor, which relocated to 540B South Main Street from Brighton Avenue. With police department approval in hand, the board granted the license unanimously, facilitating the seamless transition of the business to its new location.
In another matter, Manuel Theo from Cornerstone Lodge requested an extension of operating hours to stay open until 2:00 a.m. on specific days, a request that was also approved unanimously.
GNG Auto, represented by Nahem Bigi, sought a Class 2 Auto Sales license for a property on Pleasant Street, a location previously used as a car dealership. With police approval already secured, the board again found no objections, resulting in another unanimous approval for the license.
The board addressed the routine renewal of 2025 licenses for various establishments throughout the city. This included a long list of businesses such as All Alcohol Club, Columbia Tavern, and Don Car Social Club. The process was efficient, with each application swiftly reviewed and approved without dissent.
A brief moment of confusion occurred when Troya Café was mistakenly included in the list of approvals, but this was quickly rectified. The board’s ability to manage such oversights highlights their procedural efficiency and attention to detail.
The meeting also involved the approval of farmer brewer licenses for MP Brewing Company, known as Can Heat Brewing Company, and Troy City Brewing. These applications were accepted unanimously, further supporting the local brewing industry.
One point of concern was raised when the Liberal Club failed to attend the meeting. A board member expressed reluctance to approve licenses for clubs that are not present, emphasizing the importance of accountability and direct communication. This concern was noted, with potential implications for future meetings should the absence continue.
