The board denied a request for a handicap parking space from a resident of 293 Washington Street who cited a steep and unsafe driveway. The applicant, who has neuropathy and cares for an elderly parent, argued that the driveway’s condition made it difficult to park safely. Despite the applicant’s concerns, the board maintained its guideline that having access to a driveway disqualifies an applicant from receiving a handicap parking space.

Similarly, a request from a resident of 111 June Street was denied. The applicant claimed the assigned parking spot was too far from the front door and difficult to navigate. However, the board noted that the incline of the driveway was minimal and suggested the applicant work with their condo association to find a solution, citing that June Street already faces significant parking challenges.

The board approved curb cut applications for properties on Rodman Street, 46 Bowen Street, and Meridian Street, as the engineering department found no issues with these locations.

Several other requests related to altering traffic patterns, such as making Field Street and Oliver Street one-way, were tabled. These will require further study and input from various city departments, as well as consultations with local residents.

The board also approved handicap parking spaces for residents of 76 Trip Street and Cherry Street, where the police department found no issues and the applicants did not have driveway access. Meanwhile, several existing handicap spaces were rescinded due to changes in residency or usage.
