Faribault City Council Approves Cannabis Micro Business and Discusses Community Projects
- Meeting Overview:
In a recent meeting, the Faribault City Council approved a resolution for a new cannabis micro business on Central Avenue North, discussed amendments to an agreement with the Paradise Arts Center, and allocated funds for lead service line replacements. Additionally, the council recognized several city employees for their outstanding contributions.
The council approved a resolution allowing a cannabis micro business, Stoner’s Choice, to operate on Central Avenue North. This approval followed the business’s successful application for a license from the Office of Cannabis Management, meeting all planning and zoning requirements. A council member expressed optimism about the business contributing to the downtown area’s economic activity.
Another agenda item was the amendment to the agreement with the Paradise Arts Center. The council discussed changes that now allow the center to use its building as collateral for securing debt specifically for capital improvements. These modifications aim to support the arts center’s financial flexibility while ensuring that any other financial arrangements would still require council approval.
The meeting also addressed the lead service line replacement program. The council authorized a contract with Stantech Consulting to assist with replacing approximately 90 lead service lines, funded by a Public Facilities Authority grant. The project includes public engagement, design, and construction phases, with city staff potentially contributing to some tasks to manage costs effectively.
During the meeting, the council recognized several city employees for embodying the city’s core values. Employees from various departments, including utilities, parks and recreation, and finance, were honored for their dedication, respect, honesty, vision, and accountability. This quarterly recognition program aims to highlight and encourage exemplary service within the city’s workforce.
Additionally, the council discussed the execution of a contract with HCM Architects for architectural and engineering services related to the pavilion foundation and ice resurfacing garage.
