Franklin School Board Honors Departing Members Amid Choir’s National Recognition
- Meeting Overview:
The Franklin School Board meeting held on December 18, 2025, was marked by farewells to departing board members Walter Jackson, Nancy Lort, and Autumn Singh. The meeting also celebrated the impressive achievements of the Franklin High School choir, the Golden Blues, whose recent accomplishments on a national scale were lauded by board members and the community.
The most notable portion of the meeting was the acknowledgment of the Golden Blues choir, directed by Kira Radvansky, an alumna of the school’s magicals program. Radvansky expressed her gratitude for the community’s support of the arts, emphasizing the role these programs played in providing students with a sense of value and purpose. She stated, “I truly love my job,” as she introduced the choir’s performance, which included a rousing rendition of “Joy to the World.” The performance was met with resounding enthusiasm, as board members and attendees praised the students for their artistic prowess and the significant positive impact they have made on the community and beyond.
Board members took turns expressing their admiration for the choir, highlighting the emotional resonance of their performances and the pride instilled in the district. One member declared, “You made an international difference,” while another noted, “You folks represented Franklin. That’s huge.” The board collectively emphasized the students’ contributions to the district’s reputation on a national scale, encouraging them to continue pursuing their passions.
In addition to the choir’s achievements, the meeting recognized the accomplishments of students involved in various extracurricular activities. The success of the Franklin High School Model United Nations program was particularly highlighted, with student liaisons Dorothy and Heidi reporting on the program’s prestigious conference that hosted over 400 participants. Notable individual achievements included Niveri Damanini receiving a distinguished delegate award at the Rucker Model UN Conference.
The meeting also served as a platform to honor the departing board members for their service. The superintendent and board president delivered remarks acknowledging the contributions of Miss Singh, Miss Lort, and Mr. Jackson. The president also congratulated Zufall Health for receiving the 2025 Healthier Somerset Embracing Innovation Award and praised students from Elizabeth Avenue School for raising $650 for the Franklin Food Bank.
As public comments opened, Mayor Kramer praised the outgoing board members, describing them as “heroes” for their work in shaping the future of the community’s children. He specifically highlighted Nancy Lort’s long-standing service and her dedication to prioritizing the needs of students. Tiana Joy Jackson, the daughter of Walter Jackson, also expressed appreciation for her father’s service, humorously noting how his board involvement coincided with her achievements in sports.
The board presented plaques to the departing members, with Mr. Jackson acknowledging Walter Jackson’s leadership and commitment from 2020 to 2025. Miss Singh received recognition for her service, including her tenure as board president from 2017 to 2025, while Nancy Lort was commended for her extensive contributions to the board.
The meeting concluded with expressions of gratitude and reflections from board members and community figures. Walter Jackson reflected on his six-year tenure, highlighting achievements such as managing COVID challenges and launching new sports teams. He expressed confidence in the new leadership under Rafi Welch and Wilson. Nancy Lort also shared her reflections, emphasizing the importance of stewardship in board service and the influence of diversity within Franklin.
