- Meeting Overview:
The Franklin Town Council held a meeting that resulted in the adoption of several ordinances and resolutions, including new regulations on road openings, lead paint, and farmland preservation. The council also addressed various community and operational issues, including the acceptance of a significant donation for the Franklin Railroad Station building and the authorization of a grant application for a new senior citizens bus.
The council unanimously approved Ordinance 1024, which amends the Township Code to regulate right-of-way and street openings, as well as road opening moratoriums. This ordinance aims to provide clearer guidelines and regulations for any work that involves opening streets or roads.
Ordinance 1124, which also received unanimous approval, addresses the issue of lead-based paint. This amendment to the Township Code aims to improve public health and safety by enforcing stricter regulations on the use of lead-based paint, particularly in older buildings which may pose a risk to residents.
The council further adopted Ordinance 1224, setting parameters for the open space and farmland preservation trust fund. This ordinance is in line with New Jersey state law and is designed to support the preservation of open spaces and farmlands within Franklin Township.
In addition to these ordinances, the council passed several resolutions. Resolution was approved to accept a donation from the Curn and Albertson families for the Franklin Railroad Station building, which will support ongoing preservation and maintenance efforts for this historic site. Another notable resolution, 14324, authorizes the township administrator to complete a grant application for a matching grant to purchase a new senior citizens bus, highlighting the council’s focus on improving services for senior residents.
During the public portion of the meeting, a resident raised concerns about unprofessional communications related to a previous issue at a local dollar store. The resident alleged that an unprofessional email was sent in response to a complaint about the store, and there was a discussion about the appropriate handling of such communications.
The council members also discussed various community and operational updates. There were acknowledgments of the hard work by the Public Works department and the police department, with specific praise for their ongoing efforts despite facing numerous challenges.
