One of the most notable highlights was the retirement of K9 Lee from the Franklin Township Police Department, which included Resolution 19124. The Chief of Police addressed the audience. K9 Lee, named in memory of a fallen officer, served admirably in tracking missing persons, apprehending fugitives, and seizing narcotics.

The meeting also saw several key promotions within the police department. Resolution 19924 elevated Sergeant Anthony Rous to the position of police Lieutenant. Rous, who joined the department in 2012, has a comprehensive background in law enforcement, overseeing operations in the Patrol Division, the Firearms unit, and the training unit. His promotion was supported unanimously.

Lieutenant Jeff Wig’s promotion to police captain was another noteworthy event, approved under resolution 224. Wig, a member of the department since 2004, has served in both the Patrol Division and the Detective Bureau.

Additional appointments included Omar as a full-time police officer and Luke Lawitz to the same position, both recognized for their backgrounds and potential contributions to the department. Omar, noted for his ability to speak Spanish, is seen as a valuable asset for enhancing community relations.

Resolutions also focused on appointing Danielle Luso as a special law enforcement officer and school resource officer. With her extensive experience from the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, she is poised to make contributions to school safety and community service.

Throughout these discussions, the council emphasized the importance of community engagement, as reflected in the recognition of the Franklin Township Recreation Commission’s efforts. Public members expressed gratitude for the commission’s organization of events such as the Easter egg hunt, community day, and Christmas parties.
