In another discussion, the Commission explored options for installing barriers at the end of a nature trail to prevent vehicle access. Inspired by a recent visit to a trail in Pennsylvania, a member shared photographs of potential gate designs that allow pedestrian and bicycle access while blocking cars. The Commission considered collaborating with the Department of Public Works to either build or install such barriers, depending on cost and feasibility. Additionally, they discussed the possibility of using private contractors to construct the gates if the department could handle the installation.

The meeting also included procedural continuances for projects at Dunn State Park and 42 Linus A., both deferred to October 27th, as well as updates on ongoing efforts to improve the department’s standard operating procedures for site visits. These efforts aim to enhance the accuracy and comprehensiveness of the agent’s reports.
