- Meeting Overview:
The Gardner Conservation Commission meeting on Tuesday focused on several significant ongoing wetland projects and introduced Justin Enright as the new conservation agent. The commission also reviewed project updates, compliance issues, and discussed future plans and procedures to ensure proper environmental oversight.
The meeting began with the introduction of Justin Enright, who has taken over as the new conservation agent. Enright was provided with a comprehensive handover of files from the previous agent, Douglas Dillon, giving him a substantial amount of material to review as he settles into his new role.
One of the topics was the continuance of a Notice of Intent submitted by BR Engineering on behalf of Roy Copin for the construction of a single-family home at CK Road. Despite new drawings and communications being submitted on August 6th, the project is still under zoning review, leading the commission to postpone further discussion to the September 9th meeting.
Another item was the Notice of Intent filed by David Ross Associates for Robert Lair for property located at 122-112 Wampo Road South. The commission acknowledged communications from an abutter and requested further information from Lair, who had also asked for a continuance. This discussion was similarly pushed to the next meeting.
The commission then addressed the project by All-Purpose Storage Gardner LLC, represented by Christopher Guda of Fieldstone Land Consultants, concerning the expansion of an existing storage facility on Colony Road. The project involves seven storage containers, four of which are within the buffer zones of a bordering vegetated wetland. Despite previous communications and site visits, no new updates were provided, and the commission decided to revisit this topic at the September 9th meeting.
The commission also received an update on the Nature Trail project. Representatives from Tighe & Bond and a well-known wetland scientist, Greg Frosi, conducted a site visit to assess erosion controls and the wetland replication area. Although the erosion controls were not fully completed, the representatives ensured they were in place and discussed the project’s progress and upcoming steps.
The meeting touched upon an ongoing issue on Mill Street, which has remained unresolved and will continue to be monitored for the next year. The commission also briefly discussed the wetland replication efforts at a local elementary school.
Lastly, the commission emphasized the importance of ongoing education and professional development for its members. They encouraged participation in relevant classes and conferences to stay informed about best practices and regulatory changes.
