Gardner Planning Board Discusses New Fuel Station and Zoning Ordinance Changes
- Meeting Overview:
The Gardner Planning Board meeting on April 14 focused on several topics, including the review of a definitive site plan for a proposed Walmart fuel station and an amendment to the city’s zoning ordinance regarding signage. Both matters were tabled for further discussion at the next meeting.
The board took a detailed look at the proposed construction of a fuel station at Walmart’s existing supercenter on Tany Boulevard. The engineering representative presented updated site plans and drainage reports in response to feedback from the engineering department. These updates included changes to snow storage depiction, lighting plans, and the inclusion of an emergency shut-off valve in the operations and maintenance plan. The board also discussed a pending stormwater permit, which the applicant requested be made a conditional approval. Following the presentation, the board decided to continue the hearing to its May meeting, allowing for further public comment and preparation of a draft order of conditions.
In another key agenda item, the board addressed a proposed ordinance to amend the city code by relocating the section on signs and advertising devices to a new non-zoning chapter. After a joint public hearing with the city council, the board recommended approving the ordinance as presented, sending it back to the city council for further consideration.
Additionally, the board briefly mentioned the city’s draft master plan, which is open for public comment until April 23. A public meeting for further discussion of the plan is scheduled, with the final review and possible adoption by the planning board planned for their meeting on May 12.
