Glassboro Council Tackles Traffic Woes and Approves Budget with New Emergency Services Positions
- Meeting Overview:
The Glassboro Borough Council meeting on March 10, 2026, focused heavily on traffic and parking concerns expressed by residents, alongside the approval of a budget that included increased funding for emergency services. The council also addressed the pending retirement of a key borough administrator.
Traffic and parking issues in Glassboro took center stage during the public comment portion of the meeting, with residents and local business owners detailing problems and proposing solutions. Vincent Bruno, who resides on Rowan Boulevard, raised safety concerns at the intersection of Main Street and Rowan Boulevard, where speeding vehicles pose a danger to pedestrians. Bruno recommended the installation of new speed limit signs and crosswalk alerts to improve safety. He stressed the importance of creating a safe environment for visitors to Glassboro, stating, “I want people to come to Glassboro to feel comfortable… But it’s dangerous from my point of view.”
Local business owners echoed these concerns with a focus on parking difficulties. Rohit Joall, the owner of Rohan Indian Bistro, highlighted the impact of parking shortages on his restaurant due to the popularity of a nearby yoga studio. Joall proposed designated short-term parking near the library to accommodate his patrons. He emphasized the competitive disadvantage faced by small businesses, stating, “You can go to McDonald’s for a $15 lunch and not have to pay… where these small businesses thrive off of people.” Satish Rammani, owner of the Kennedy News Agency, supported Joall’s points, explaining how inadequate parking affects his elderly customers and delivery operations. Rammani suggested stricter enforcement of parking durations to alleviate congestion.
The council members responded to these concerns with assurances of their commitment to addressing the issues.
In addition to traffic concerns, the council approved a new budget for the upcoming year, which included significant allocations for emergency services. Councilman Brown, the finance chair, outlined a 3-cent increase in the municipal budget, equating to approximately 25 cents per day for an average home valued at $300,000. This budget increase allows for the hiring of two police officers and one firefighter. The budget also earmarked funds for capital projects, such as the purchase of a new fire truck and sewer main relining. Brown acknowledged the efforts of key individuals in navigating the budgetary challenges, expressing gratitude for their contributions.
The meeting also saw the council adopt Resolution R10726 and Ordinance 26-04. The latter amends the borough code concerning the consumption of alcoholic beverages in public and quasi-public places. Despite the opportunity for public commentary, no individuals came forward to discuss the ordinance, which was subsequently adopted without opposition.
An important personnel update was brought to the council’s attention with the retirement announcement of Edward Milandro III, the borough administrator. Council members expressed regret over his departure while highlighting his contributions to Glassboro. Personal anecdotes and affirmations of his mentorship underscored Milandro’s lasting impact on the community. The council formally accepted his retirement letter, acknowledging his dedication and service.
The meeting continued with updates on various committee reports, including ongoing challenges faced by the water and sewer department due to recent weather conditions. The approval of a facilities use application for the Glassboro Health Fair, scheduled for April 25, 2026, was also confirmed.
