Glen Ridge Scouts Honored for Winter Volunteerism; Affordable Housing Reassurance
- Meeting Overview:
At the recent Glen Ridge Borough Council meeting, Mayor Deborah Mans and the council recognized Boy Scout Troop 55 for their commendable community service during the winter, assisting senior citizens by shoveling snow and ensuring their safety. Additionally, council members highlighted the town’s continued compliance with state affordable housing mandates.
The council meeting began with an acknowledgment of Boy Scout Troop 55’s efforts in supporting Glen Ridge’s senior citizens during harsh winter conditions. The scouts, under the guidance of Scoutmaster Dan Copek, were praised for their dedication, which Recreation Director Jim Cowen brought to the council’s attention. The Mayor expressed gratitude, emphasizing the positive impact of the scouts’ volunteer work on the community’s vulnerable residents.
In matters concerning affordable housing, it was reported that all necessary filings for the town’s affordable housing plan were submitted by the state-mandated deadline. This compliance maintains Glen Ridge’s immunity from builder lawsuits for the time being, safeguarding the borough’s interests. The council is now awaiting a court date for a final compliance hearing, which will potentially secure the town’s protection until 2035.
The Finance and Administration Committee moved forward with a resolution authorizing the payment of claims, including significant transfers to the Board of Education and county funding. Meanwhile, the Public Works Utility Committee highlighted a productive meeting with Mountainside Hospital officials, discussing community engagement and infrastructure concerns, and approved a resolution for new tire mounting equipment to maintain the town’s vehicle fleet efficiently.
The Environmental Advisory Committee received praise for organizing a community outreach session with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. This event, focusing on a prospective state park project, was well attended and is expected to lead to further community engagement efforts.
