- Meeting Overview:
The Greater Lowell Technical School Committee meeting on December 19, 2024, highlighted several developments, including the acceptance of donations totaling $1,500 for student programming and assistance, and updates on student activities and cooperative education participation. Additionally, the committee approved out-of-state travel for instructors and discussed the disposal of surplus vehicles.
The committee approved the acceptance of two charitable donations, which were presented at the meeting. A $1,000 donation from the Greater Lowell Community Foundation Grant will be allocated for student programming and art supplies within the transitional occupations program. Another $500 donation from the Massachusetts Trial Trades Association is designated for the Student Assistance Fund. These contributions reflect ongoing community support for the school’s initiatives and student welfare.
A notable update came from the Cooperative Education Report, revealing that 247 senior students, or 44% of the class of 2025, are participating in the cooperative education program.
The committee also approved two out-of-state travel requests for staff professional development. An advanced manufacturing instructor will attend a robotic welding arm training in Ohio, while a medical and culinary arts instructor will participate in a Marine Educators Workshop in Paris Island. These training opportunities are at minimal or no cost to the district, emphasizing the value of professional growth without financial burden.
In operational matters, the committee discussed the disposal of four older vehicles, including a 14-passenger bus, which have accumulated due to recent replacements. The process will follow the school committee’s policy on surplus property, pending valuation.
