In light of the imminent threat from Hurricane Milton, which is projected to make landfall near Tampa, the council discussed the county’s preparedness. Gulf County is expected to experience tropical storm-force winds and potential storm surge. Council members reviewed the performance of emergency equipment, noting issues with generators at White City and Honeyville. Despite these setbacks, quick actions ensured backup generators were in place for critical services.

Additionally, the council approved the South Gulf Volunteer Fire Department’s purchase of a tanker fire truck, not to exceed $500,000, with funds available in their budget. This decision will enhance the department’s firefighting capabilities, with delivery expected within six to nine months.
