High Point School Board Welcomes New Members and Sets Agenda for 2026
- Meeting Overview:
The High Point School Board meeting on January 6, 2026, was marked by the swearing-in of new members, the election of officers, and discussions on committee structures and meeting schedules for the year. The board also made several appointments and approved routine administrative actions.
The meeting began by addressing the results of the November 4, 2025, election for three contested board seats in Wantage Township. Heather Hill and Allison Horsey were sworn in after receiving 138 and 62 votes, respectively, while Leaf Ericson secured a seat with 40 votes. The new members recited their oaths of office, officially beginning their terms on the board.
With the board members settled, the election of officers for 2026 took place. Mr. D was unanimously elected as the new board president, expressing gratitude for the trust placed in him to lead. Allison Horsey was elected vice president, also receiving unanimous support.
The board moved forward with appointments to various associations. Mr. D was chosen as the delegate to the New Jersey School Boards Association, drawing on his past experience in the role, while Heather Hill volunteered to serve as the alternate delegate. Additionally, a member of the board was appointed to the Sussex County School Boards Association, with Nanette Fandino-Diaz named as the alternate. There was also a discussion regarding the Sussex County Edge Services Commission, where Allison Horsey offered to attend the required meetings. Each of these appointments proceeded smoothly, without any disagreement.
The board also nominated Dana Call to represent the district on the Sussex County Educational Services Commission. Although the meetings were not deemed particularly enjoyable, attendance was noted as essential for compliance. This nomination received unanimous support from the board members present.
Attention then turned to the committee structure, encompassing crucial areas such as athletics, transportation, curriculum, finance, and policy negotiations. The board approved the committee structure with no objections.
Although concerns about potential conflicts with county board meetings arose, the board decided to maintain the scheduled dates unless absolutely necessary to change them. Critical dates for budget hearings in March and April were highlighted, with flexibility acknowledged for the tentative last day of school. The board agreed to review individual schedules before finalizing the calendar.
Routine administrative actions were consolidated into a single vote. The board designated the New Jersey Herald and Sunday Herald as official newspapers, appointed Provident Bank as the official depository, and approved petty cash funds. They also authorized a signature stamp for key officials, designated a school board administrator as custodian of records, and approved a fee schedule for various requests. All items passed unanimously.
The board affirmed the continuation of existing bylaws, policies, and job descriptions through December 31, 2026, subject to any revisions suggested by the superintendent. They recognized both the High Point Education Association and the High Point Administrators Association, authorized bonding for the business administrator and treasurer, and approved contracts with state vendors. Again, these passed without dissent.
