A major focus of the meeting was the approval of a $125,000 capital ordinance for the South Peak drainage improvements project. The initiative aims to address drainage issues at Twin Lake Terrace, where an overhead pipe has been causing erosion and damage to a retaining wall. The council discussed plans to repair the wall and extend the drainage system while minimizing impact on the surrounding environment. During the public hearing, a resident named Stacy expressed gratitude for resolving the long-standing issue.

In addition to the drainage project, the council celebrated receiving two planning awards. One award was for the asset activation project at the James T. White plant, and the other recognized the CBD guidelines for construction in flood plains, which will serve as a model for the entire county.

The council also handled several financial matters, including the transfer of surplus funds to maintain balanced books and the closeout of the phase one sanitary sewer improvements project. The resolutions passed smoothly.

Lastly, the council announced an exciting cultural event scheduled for July 3rd, where the Italian tall ship, the Amerigo Vespucci, will be moored in Sandy Hook Bay as part of the 250th anniversary celebrations. The Highlands Business Partnership is coordinating activities for the ship’s crew in the borough, promising a vibrant community experience.
