The task force, comprising code compliance officers and police, is focused on educating the public about illegal dumping and enforcing regulations. Fines for violations range from $500 to $5,000, with potential felony charges for severe offenses involving commercial vehicles.

The task force employs surveillance cameras in hotspot areas to monitor and gather evidence against offenders. The council emphasized the importance of community involvement, urging residents to report illegal dumping activities through a designated tip line or the Fix It Homestead app, which allows users to submit photos and location data. Officers noted that much of the illegal dumping originates from outside the city, with early trash placement by residents inadvertently attracting dumpers.

Efforts to educate the community include distributing informational flyers and conducting “knock and talk” sessions, where officers visit neighborhoods to discuss proper disposal practices and listen to residents’ concerns.
