Howell Township Considers Removing Conservation Easement Restrictions
- Meeting Overview:
Howell Township held a public hearing to discuss the proposed removal of conservation easement restrictions from two private properties, as part of compliance with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Green Acres Program. The properties, located at 501 and 503 Newton’s Corner Road, are being considered for easement changes that would affect approximately 0.54 acres on Lot 7.04 and 0.16 acres on Lot 7.05. Despite the changes, Farmland buffer easements on these properties will remain in place, maintaining some level of protection.
Matthew Howard, the director of Community Development, land use officer, and Deputy manager of Howell Township, provided a detailed presentation on the history of the properties, the previous modifications of the easements, and the current proposal to remove the conservation easements. The properties had undergone several changes since 2013, with the most recent planning board approval for easement removal occurring in 2023 under case number SD-30005.
