Indian River Shores Board Approves Pickleball Court Proposal Amid Noise Concerns
- Meeting Overview:
During the recent meeting of the Indian River Shores planning, zoning, and variance board, the board approved an application from the Breezer Homeowners Association for the installation of two new pickleball courts. This decision followed a review of the application materials and a discussion on potential impacts such as noise and drainage.
A representative from the engineering firm handling the project assured the board that drainage would not be an issue, referencing verification from the St. John’s River Water Management. Noise concerns were addressed as well, with nearby residents reportedly hearing cheering from the courts, but no formal complaints had been filed. The applicant proposed a landscape buffer along the northern property line to mitigate any potential noise issues. The courts will be placed in an area previously designated for a tennis court that was never installed.
The board also confirmed that the installation of the pickleball courts would not affect existing parking arrangements. The representative stated that the current parking is sufficient for the additional court usage, as the courts are not open to the public.
