In addition to the golf course deliberations, the council addressed issues related to infrastructure and waste management contracts. Representatives from Beaches Energy Services discussed the necessity of upgrading diagnostic testing equipment for power transformers to ensure reliable service for the city’s 35,000 customers. The council unanimously approved the purchase of new equipment from industry-standard manufacturers, Omicron, Doble, and Dialo, emphasizing the critical nature of these assets and the need for in-house testing capabilities to prevent service delays and enhance operational safety.

The council also reviewed a franchise contract agreement amendment with Waste Pro for disaster debris collection. Public Works Director Dennis Baron explained that the amendment would formalize payment processes for debris removal following named storms, addressing past discrepancies in compensation. The council expressed support for the amendment, which aims to establish clear payment mechanisms based on debris volume collected during storm events.
