In addition to the Junior Citizen award, Tom Andrea was honored as the American Legion Citizen of the Year for his extensive volunteer work and dedication to various community initiatives. Tom’s contributions include his involvement with the Pequannock Open Space Committee, the Environmental Commission, the local scouting community, and the Parks and Recreation Department, where he has been instrumental in organizing events such as the Senior Olympics and establishing a chess club for children.

The council also discussed a reappropriation ordinance related to the Brooklyn sewer pump station project. The ordinance, which required a two-thirds majority vote, reallocates funds from the completed Route 23 sewer project to the new pump station project. This move is intended to optimize the use of remaining funds and progress infrastructure improvements.

Another noteworthy topic was the introduction of a change order for the Well 1 and 2 POS treatment program. This first-of-its-kind $0 change order was prompted by a contractor’s proposal to use an alternative method for filtering contaminants, which required approval from multiple authorities, including the township’s consulting engineer and the state bureau chief.
