Keansburg School Board Highlights Student Achievements and Program Successes
- Meeting Overview:
In a recent meeting, the Keansburg School Board focused on the accomplishments of students and the success of district programs, with particularly notable presentations on the Gifted and Talented program and the district’s Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying (HIB) grades. Additionally, the Board addressed financial stability, approved personnel actions, and commended various student activities.
The Gifted and Talented program presentation was an element of the meeting. Two fifth graders took the lead, highlighting their experiences with field trips, STEM projects, and their contribution to the Young Writers publication. The program also included a school spirit project. This segment underscored the Board’s dedication to fostering academic excellence and providing enrichment opportunities that challenge and engage talented students.
Further underlining the district’s dedication to student growth and achievement, recognition was given to students who had participated in a math competition, with awards presented for their accomplishments. Moreover, the Keansburg casting crew of the musical “Once Upon a Mattress” received acknowledgment, with two students earning honorable mentions at the prestigious Count Basie Awards. These accolades illustrate the district’s strong performance not only in academics but also in the arts.
Another core topic addressed was the district’s HIB grades for the 2022-2023 school year. The presentation detailed the proactive measures in place to combat bullying, such as anti-bullying programs and staff training sessions. It was highlighted that there were zero preliminary determinations made for incidents that fell outside the scope of HIB. The presentation also covered the consequences and remedial actions for founded instances of HIB, emphasizing the district’s serious approach to maintaining a safe and respectful learning environment for all students.
The meeting also touched on the extracurricular and community events that enrich the student experience. The 8th-grade class’s trip to Medieval Times was reported as a success, with students expressing enthusiasm and enjoyment. The upcoming walk in honor of Mr. Flippo and the Butterfield dance were announced, alongside the induction ceremony for the choir and band students. These events not only contribute to the school community but also to the personal development of students.
Financial matters were also a point of discussion, with the financial committee reporting that the district was financially sound. This announcement ensures that the district can continue to support and expand its programs without the burden of financial distress. The superintendent recommended actions on various personnel items, including retirements and re-employment, which the board approved. Policy and regulation approvals for field trips and the District HIB report were also discussed.
The School Business Administrator Board Secretary’s report included items such as certification of funds, payroll, and approval of home instruction. The board approved these reports.
The Board took a moment to acknowledge the retirement of an individual named Dy Sheldon, expressing gratitude for her service. Furthermore, board members extended congratulations and well wishes for the upcoming graduation and district events.
