Both students are engineering degree candidates and have made notable impacts on their peers. Additionally, Anthony Lman was recognized for receiving the Union County unsung hero award. Scholar athletes Sophia Pessa and Mike Koric were commended for balancing their academic responsibilities with athletic excellence. Bianca Sod, another scholar athlete, was present to receive acknowledgment for her accomplishments.

The progress of various infrastructure projects was another focal point of the meeting. The HVAC project at Harding School was reported to be ahead of schedule, with substantial completion expected by July. The field project was nearing completion, with the turf installation finished and the track set for delivery post-graduation. The additions project was 85% complete, including developments in the foundation, insulation, and underground utilities, expected to conclude in the spring of 2025.

The Finance, Facilities, and Negotiation committee provided a detailed update on the construction projects and recommended restricting the use of athletic fields to students during school hours for security and safety reasons. The committee also reviewed resolutions related to financials, billings, line item transfers, field trips, contractor payments, contracts, and non-public school programs. Their review and recommendations were presented to the board for discussion and action.

Questions were raised by board members about the nature of certain field trips, particularly the “Kenilworth Diner” trip, which was designed for students requiring life skills as part of their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The committee explained that these trips serve specific educational purposes. Clarification was also sought on the allocation of funds for non-public school programs, with the committee indicating that the district merely channels these state funds and ensures compliance with regulations, not bearing the financial burden.

Further, the board covered personnel management, approving eight resolutions and scheduling a closed session to discuss various personnel matters. Curricular and instruction news included the approval of curricular guides, updates to policies ensuring equity in school and classroom practices, and a revision of the sportsmanship policy to align with the district’s civility policy and the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association’s code of conduct.

Public comments featured a parent addressing concerns about bullying at Harding School, detailing incidents involving their child and expressing dissatisfaction with the school’s response and impact on the child’s well-being. The board acknowledged the comments and suggested that the matter would be addressed at a later time.
