Lac qui Parle Valley School Board Unveils Strategic Roadmap with Focus on Curriculum and Community Collaboration
- Meeting Overview:
In its recent meeting, the Lac qui Parle Valley School Board approved a comprehensive strategic roadmap for 2025 to 2030, aiming to enhance student achievement through a robust curriculum, boost college and career readiness, improve communication, and foster a supportive learning environment. This roadmap, developed with input from students, staff, families, and community members, outlines the district’s goals and direction for the next five years.
The strategic roadmap stands out as a significant highlight of the meeting, setting the tone for the district’s future initiatives. The board outlined four key goals: raising student achievement through a guaranteed and viable curriculum across all grades and subjects; collaborating with families, businesses, and the community to offer clear pathways for college and career opportunities; enhancing communication to ensure transparency and accountability; and promoting a safe and supportive learning environment with high character expectations from all school community members. These goals reflect a collaborative effort to address the educational needs of the district, seeking to align stakeholders with common objectives.
The roadmap was presented on the district’s recently updated website, and stakeholders were encouraged to review the measurable outcomes associated with each goal. To maintain accountability and track progress, annual updates on the metrics will be provided. The board emphasized the importance of these updates in ensuring the strategic plan’s relevance and effectiveness over time.
In addition to the strategic roadmap, the meeting addressed operational changes, such as updates to the Little Eagles daycare handbook. The board approved modifications to the daycare’s snow day hours, which now can end at 4:00 PM based on family needs. This change was part of a broader discussion about providing flexibility and prioritizing staff children on the daycare waitlist, regardless of their work schedules.
Financial matters also took center stage as the board reviewed the monthly financials and completed the process for the annual audit, expected to conclude within three weeks. The board approved payments for August 2025, totaling $1,624,199.36, encompassing board bills, annual checks, and construction expenses.
The board also discussed the e-learning plan for the 2025-2026 school year, which involves negotiating teacher availability during live instruction and clarifying its scope with special education case managers. Adjustments to the plan are primarily related to scheduling, ensuring teachers have approximately 60 minutes of availability, thus offering flexibility and accommodating student needs.
Administrative reports highlighted the successful start of the school year for grades 5 through 12, with positive feedback on the new elementary schedule and assessment day. This new approach enables teachers to gather data and engage with students individually, addressing initial concerns about scheduling and childcare. One board member expressed gratitude for the initiative, noting its calming effect on students by providing clear expectations.
The meeting concluded with discussions on climate control in school buildings, recognizing the custodial staff’s efforts in managing humidity levels effectively. The board considered whether a program is needed to monitor temperature and humidity consistently across the district’s facilities.
